ABOUT TINT.MELBOURNE

What decorative and frosting film does

Decorative window film is applied directly to existing glass to change its appearance, add privacy, or create a custom design finish. It achieves the look of acid-etched, sandblasted, reeded or textured glass — at a fraction of the cost and without any structural work. When your needs change, the film can be removed or replaced without damage to the glass underneath.

It is used for everything from a single bathroom window that needs privacy to a full commercial fitout where every glass partition needs a consistent frosted band — and everything in between.

What we can do with decorative film

Six film categories. Hundreds of applications.
Frosted film

Achieves the look of sandblasted or acid-etched glass. Diffuses light while blocking direct visibility. Available in varying opacity levels - from a light translucent haze to a near-opaque white. Most commonly used for bathroom windows, office partitions and glass doors where privacy and natural light are both needed.

Reeded and patterned film

Replicates the appearance of reeded, fluted, ribbed and other textured specialty glass. A cost-effective alternative where reeded or fluted glass has been specified by an architect - the film is applied to standard glass to achieve the same visual result at significantly lower cost. Aaron Kessler specified fluted film in school meeting rooms to achieve the effect of specialty glazing within the fitout budget. Available as standard patterns or custom-designed prints.

Decorative and geometric patterns

Bands, geometric designs, abstract patterns and textured looks applied to glass partitions, windows and doors. Available in a wide range of standard designs or as custom-printed film for bespoke applications. Used commercially for feature glass in offices, retail, hospitality and education settings, and residentially for feature windows and internal glass panels.

Custom printed and branded film

Digitally printed film for logos, graphics, artwork, wayfinding text and branded finishes. Applied to shopfronts, glass partitions, reception panels and interior glass features. Particularly effective for businesses that want their brand visible through a shopfront or on internal glazing. We can work from your brand guidelines, an architect’s specification, or a brief.

Coloured decorative film

Translucent and transparent film available in a wide range of colours. In a commercial setting, coloured film can reflect brand colours and create a contemporary finish. In a residential setting, coloured film adds privacy, filters light and creates a feature finish. Available in both translucent and opaque grades.

Safety manifestation decals

Thin strips of solid, opaque film placed on full-height glass panels to indicate glass is present and prevent human impact. Required under the National Construction Code for full-height glazing in new commercial buildings. We supply and install safety decals alongside all other frosting and decorative services - see the Commercial and Construction pages for full compliance details.

Overlooking compliance for new builds

A Victorian building regulation that frosting film is the standard solution for.
Under Victorian building regulations, a habitable room window or raised open space of a building must not provide a direct line of sight into a habitable room window or onto the secluded private open space of an adjoining property. Where a new build or extension creates this line of sight, frosting film applied to the relevant windows is the standard, cost-effective solution to achieve compliance.

Overlooking – Victorian building regulation

Builders, architects and building surveyors regularly specify frosting film as the approved solution to overlooking requirements. We assess the affected windows, recommend the right film grade and application area, and provide documentation confirming the installation for sign-off.

Builders and developers

Overlooking requirements are identified during the planning and approval stage. Frosting film is specified as the solution before practical completion.

Architects and designers

Where overlooking affects the building design, frosting film can be incorporated into the glazing specification from the outset.

Homeowners extending or building

If your renovation or extension creates an overlooking issue with a neighbour’s property, frosting film resolves it without requiring changes to the building structure.

Building surveyors

We provide documentation confirming the installation and the film specification for compliance sign-off.

Where it gets used

Decorative film works equally well in homes and commercial spaces.

Commercial - professional finishes without the cost of specialty glass

Residential - privacy, light and style in any room

The look of specialty glass. Without replacing the glass.

Acid-etched, sandblasted, reeded and textured glass are all expensive to specify and even more expensive to replace once installed. Decorative film achieves the same visual result at a fraction of the cost – applied to the glass you already have, removable when you want a change, and available in custom patterns and designs. For commercial fitouts, this can represent a significant saving on glazing budgets without any compromise on the finished result.

Custom patterns and designs

We can match an existing design, create something new, or work from your architect’s specification.
Work from your plans

Send us architect drawings or an interior design specification. We match the film finish to the specified glass effect - reeded, frosted, etched or custom patterned.

Custom design

We can design a pattern, logo or graphic for you, or work from your brand guidelines. Supplied as digitally printed film

Standard patterns

A wide range of frosted, reeded, textured and patterned films available from stock. No design work required for standard applications.

Not sure what finish you want? We can show you samples on your actual glass before committing. Seeing it in situ is always the best way to make a decision.

What a pleasure this company was to deal with. From my first contact with Mel, discussing the details of the work required to Steve the installer. Their detail, timeliness and pricing were excellent. Every email was responded to immediately. Steve arrived on time to the minute. He was friendly, knowledgeable and did a fantastic job and left the area very clean. Now I’m considering getting some more windows covered. The difference in the heat coming through the windows was noticed immediately. Thanks

The team at Tint did a first class job on my huge apex window. Scott and Steve were prompt, courteous, efficient and very obliging, even moving my furniture back into position. Already I notice less glare and I am confident when summer kicks in, the reduction in heat will be amazing. Very pleased and I can highly recommend Tint. Thank you!
